Odoo Sales app, configured for how you actually operate
Brainvire configures Odoo Sales around the way you already quote: your quotation templates, your pricelist rules, your delivery and invoicing policies. A confirmed order becomes a delivery and an invoice on the same record.
The Odoo Sales module is the quote-to-order application inside Odoo. A quotation becomes a sales order, then a delivery and an invoice, on one record.
Sales teams quoting in spreadsheets, whose customer terms are remembered rather than configured, and whose orders are re-keyed to be shipped.
Small implementations 8 to 12 weeks. Mid-market 12 to 24 weeks. Multi-channel enterprise rollouts 6 to 12 months.
An Odoo functional consultant, a technical consultant, a data lead and a solution architect, with your sales operations owner.
/ Before you change anything
Does your sales process run like any of this?
Patterns we see where quoting happens outside the system that ships the order.
Every quote starts from a blank page
Each rep keeps a personal template, so two quotes for one product line read differently.
Customer terms live in someone’s head
Who buys on which terms is remembered, not configured, so the wrong ones go out and get corrected.
The order is entered twice
A won deal is re-keyed into whatever system ships it, so what was sold and what shipped drift apart.
The forecast is three exports
Pipeline, confirmed orders and invoices come from different places, so nobody can state all three at once.

/ The work itself
Which key features of Odoo Sales does Brainvire configure?
Odoo ships a working Sales application. The value is in the configuration. Everything before the quotation — leads, scoring, pipeline — is Odoo CRM.
| Odoo default | What Brainvire changes | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Quotations written from scratch | Quotation templates per product line, each with its own validity, confirmation email and invoicing journal | The same offer goes out the same way, whoever sends it |
| One list price for everyone | Pricelists whose rules key off product, category, quantity and date range | Terms are configured, not remembered |
| One currency on every quote | A pricelist per currency, rates updated on a schedule. Odoo works with 167 currencies | An export quote needs no side calculation |
| A flat product catalog | Attributes that generate product variants, each with its own code, image and price line | A rep picks a sellable configuration, not a description |
| No prompt to sell alongside | Optional products on the product form and the quotation template | Cross-sell happens while the quote is built |
| Quotations that never expire | An expiration date per quotation, or a validity in days on the template | An old quote cannot be accepted on terms you have dropped |
| Confirmation by email thread | Online signature, and where you want it online payment, to confirm the order | A record of who confirmed the order, and when |
| One invoicing rule for everything | An invoicing policy per product: ordered quantities, or delivered quantities when an order ships in parts | The invoice matches what left the warehouse |
| No margin visible on the order | Margin and Margin (%) columns on order lines, with cost held on the product | A rep sees the effect of a concession before sending |
| One shared sales team | A sales team per channel with its own members, alias and dashboard, plus portal access for customers | Reporting splits by team, and customers check status themselves |
Capability and feature names follow the Odoo 18 documentation.
/ Where the software does the work
Where do AI and automation earn their place in a sales team?
Four places where the system does the typing.
Purchase orders read, not keyed
For American Lighting, a US lighting manufacturer, an agent finds the purchase order in a Zendesk ticket, reads any format, and matches customer, address and SKU to existing records before the order is drafted.
The proposal builds itself
Odoo’s PDF Quote Builder composes the customer-facing quotation from reusable PDF sections and dynamic fields taken off the order, so covering material is generated, not reassembled.
Rules instead of recall
Price rules resolve against product, category, quantity and date as a line is added, and the margin column recalculates with them.
Sold, shipped and billed together
Sales analysis, the team dashboard and invoicing read the same records, so quoted, confirmed and invoiced are answerable at one moment.
What usually connects to your sales orders?
Odoo does not replace every system you run. It has to talk to them.E-commerce
Storefront orders arrive as sales orders with the right customer, pricelist and delivery address, and stock and status flow back. Web order and ERP order are one record.
and moreERP Systems
Moving off spreadsheet quoting or an older ERP means mapping the product catalog, the customer terms and the open order book, and reconciling open orders before cut-over.
and moreEDI & Marketplace
Odoo’s Amazon Connector creates the sales order, the customer and the delivery from a marketplace order, so it sits next to your own channels.
and moreShipping Gateways
The delivery method set on the order picks the carrier, produces the label and returns tracking to the order and the customer portal.
and moreTaxation
Fiscal positions decide which tax applies by country, customer and registration status, so export and domestic orders compute correctly from one product record.
and morePayment Gateways
Where a quotation is confirmed by online payment, the provider, the confirmation and the order sit on one record, and the receipt reconciles to the invoice.
and moreOther Integrations
Commission tooling, subscription billing, e-signature and BI dashboards each touch the order. Each gets a named owner and a field mapping.
and more/ Delivery
How does an Odoo Sales implementation run?
Small implementations 8 to 12 weeks, mid-market 12 to 24 weeks, multi-channel rollouts 6 to 12 months. A named owner and a working demo at each stage.
Discovery
We map what happens after a deal is won: who quotes, what varies by customer, how an order becomes a delivery and an invoice. You provide a sales operations owner and real orders.
Design
Quotation templates, pricelist structure, invoicing policy per product family, delivery routing and the report each role reads are agreed in writing.
Build and data
Configuration, product catalog and customer records, integrations and any Studio work, then a test company loaded with your own open orders.
Pilot and go-live
One sales team confirms real orders in the test company until order, delivery and invoice agree, then cut-over with hypercare through the first full month.
/ Scope
What makes a Sales scope bigger or smaller?
A typical engagement covers the Sales application, quotation templates, pricelist structure, invoicing and delivery policies, and the customer portal.
How your products vary
A flat catalog is quick. Attributes that generate variants, each needing its own data, make a project of their own.
How differently they buy
One set of terms for everyone is quick. Customer-specific rules, several currencies and contract terms take design.
What happens after confirmation
Ship-from-stock is simple. Partial deliveries, dropship routing and made-to-order change the invoicing policy.
Where an order can start
A rep quoting is one path. A storefront, a marketplace and a portal each add a reconciliation.
/ Odoo, on the record
Where have we reworked quoting and orders on Odoo before?
Each card is one client, on the record.
Central Sign Supplies
A 72-year-old wholesale sign supplier moved onto Odoo with the Sales and Purchase modules and an ecommerce store. The product master was rebuilt so each variant carries its own attributes, image and price line, and an availability check routes fulfillment to the warehouse or raises a dropship.

AMASCO LLC
AMASCO could not report cost against a quotation. On Odoo 16 an accepted quote opens the project and links the procurement raised against it, so estimated and actual sit on one report.

/ Comparison
Odoo Sales, Salesforce CPQ or a spreadsheet?
All three produce a quotation. The question is what happens next.
| Criterion | Salesforce CPQ or a spreadsheet | Odoo |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | A quoting tool, with delivery and invoicing in another system | Quotation, order, delivery and invoice on one record |
| Pricelists | Rules held in the quoting tool, re-entered downstream | Price rules by product, category, quantity and date, on the order that ships and bills |
| Multi-entity | Separate orgs, or separate workbooks, combined outside the product | Multi-company on one database, pricelists scoped per company |
| Customization | Configuration, plus a marketplace or more spreadsheet logic | Studio, plus full source access on Community. See Odoo customization |
| Hosting | Vendor-hosted | Odoo.sh, your own cloud, or on-premise |
| Order to invoice | The accepted quote is re-keyed to be fulfilled and billed | An invoicing policy decides whether you bill ordered or delivered |
| Upgrade path | Vendor-managed | Version upgrades planned and tested, typically 3 to 8 weeks |
Choose a CPQ tool or a spreadsheet if quoting is all you need and someone else owns fulfillment and billing. Choose Odoo if the quote has to become the delivery and the invoice without being re-entered. Selling online too? See Odoo ecommerce and website.
/ Questions we are asked
Odoo Sales module FAQs.
Is Odoo Sales the same thing as Odoo CRM?
No. CRM manages the pipeline: leads, opportunities, scoring and the activities that get you to a proposal. Sales manages everything from the quotation onward: templates, pricelists, order confirmation, delivery and invoicing policies, and reporting. They share one database, so a won opportunity becomes a quotation without being retyped.
How do pricelists work in Odoo?
A pricelist is a set of price rules applied to a quotation. Each rule targets a product or a category and can be limited by customer group, quantity and date range. A pricelist carries its own currency and, in a multi-company database, its own company. Rules can be overridden on the order.
Can we quote in more than one currency?
Yes. Currency is set on the pricelist, so a customer who buys in another currency gets a pricelist in that currency. Odoo works with 167 currencies, and the Accounting application must be installed before multi-currency is available. Rate updates are scheduled so nobody converts by hand.
Do we have to invoice every order the same way?
No. The invoicing policy is set per product. Ordered quantities bills what the customer confirmed. Delivered quantities bills what actually shipped, which suits businesses that fulfill one order across several deliveries. We agree on the policy per product family during design rather than leaving the default.
Can customers sign and confirm a quotation online?
Yes. Online signature can be enabled globally or on a quotation template, so the customer opens the quotation, signs it, and the order is confirmed with a record of who confirmed it. Online payment can be requested on confirmation too. Both replace the email thread that stands in for approval.
How long does an Odoo Sales implementation take?
Small implementations run 8 to 12 weeks. Mid-market programs run 12 to 24 weeks. Multi-channel enterprise rollouts run 6 to 12 months. A version upgrade alone is 3 to 8 weeks. Catalog complexity, how many customer-specific terms you carry and how many channels create orders move the range most.
Can a rep see margin on a quotation before it goes out?
Yes. Turning on the Margins setting adds Margin and Margin (%) columns to the order lines, worked out from the sales price and the cost held on the product. They recalculate when a pricelist is applied, so the effect of a concession is visible before sending.
Will our customers be able to track their own orders?
Yes, through portal access. A portal user sees their quotations, sales orders, deliveries and invoices, signs a quotation and downloads documents, without an internal user account. We decide what the portal exposes during design, because that decision is what ends the status-chasing calls.
What does the Odoo Sales app actually do?
Odoo’s version 20 documentation describes the Sales application as the place to run the sales process from quotation to sales order, and to deliver and invoice what has been sold. Any product with the Sales checkbox ticked on its product form can be sold with it. Odoo describes a fast and intuitive interface designed for salespeople, quotations converted into sales orders in one click, or by the customer through an online quote, and quotes, orders and invoices handled from the same screen. Because Odoo is a suite of open source business apps, Sales shares its database with CRM, Inventory and Accounting.
What are the main features of Odoo Sales?
Odoo groups them under efficient selling, professional quotations, order and contract management, streamlined communication, product and price control, and reporting. In practice that means a quotation builder and quotation templates, pricelists and discounts, product variants with a variant grid, optional products for upselling, electronic signature and online payment, a customer portal, invoicing on ordered or delivered quantities, pro forma invoices, and order and invoicing analysis. Odoo also offers a mobile interface for selling on the road.
How does the Sales app work with other modules?
It shares one database with the rest of Odoo. CRM hands the won opportunity over as a quotation. With Inventory installed, product availability information shows on the quotation and a confirmed order triggers delivery orders automatically. Odoo says Accounting generates invoices from sales orders, delivery orders and contracts, and recurring contracts belong in the Subscriptions app, which tracks recurring revenue on its own dashboard.
Can pricing differ by customer, region or quantity?
Yes. Odoo describes pricelists that compute the price from customer conditions, such as region and price tier, or from order conditions, such as quantity and time. Discounts can be applied to any quotation line and shown or hidden on the customer’s copy, and coupons, promotion codes and loyalty programs sit alongside them. We decide with you which of these a rep may override.
Can Odoo charge delivery and shipping on an order?
Yes. Odoo treats delivery charges as a product type, and shipping cost can be computed from weight, volume, quantity, margin and delivery address. Through third-party shipper integrations Odoo prints labels and tracks shipments; it names UPS, DHL, FedEx, USPS, Bpost and Easypost among them. We set the delivery methods per channel during design.
What sales statistics and reports does Odoo provide?
Odoo lets you base statistics on orders, invoices or both, and group sales data by product type, salesperson, country and sales team. It also describes a dashboard for metrics such as total invoiced, and an overview of next activities. Because quotations, orders and invoices sit in one database, those numbers come from the records themselves rather than from exports.
Which Odoo plan do we need to use Sales?
Odoo’s One App Free plan covers one app with unlimited users, and that app can be Sales. The Standard plan includes all apps on Odoo Online. The Custom plan adds the external API and a choice of Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting, with Odoo.sh hosting billed on top. Which plan includes Studio is worth confirming in the current plan comparison on odoo.com. Odoo no longer sells apps one at a time, and Odoo Online cannot run custom code modules, so the plan follows how many apps you run and whether you need custom development. Prices vary by country, so check Odoo’s pricing page for yours.
Is Odoo Sales better than Salesforce?
It depends on what happens after the quote. A CPQ tool such as Salesforce CPQ handles quoting, with delivery and invoicing usually in another system. Odoo puts the quotation, the order, the delivery and the invoice on a single platform, so it suits teams that want the accepted quote to become the shipment and the bill without re-entry. If quoting is all you need and another system owns fulfillment, a CPQ tool can be the better fit.
What are the disadvantages of Odoo Sales?
The limits we scope for are about plans and custom work. Odoo Online cannot run custom code modules, so a business with highly specific quoting logic needs the Custom plan with Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting. If you plan to use Studio, check the current plan comparison on odoo.com for which plan includes it. Every custom module also has to be tested again at each version upgrade. We treat each of these as a scoping decision made during design, not a surprise after go-live.
What makes an Odoo Sales rollout succeed?
Three things from the process above: a sales operations owner who decides the terms, configuration before customization, and real orders in testing. Pricelists, quotation templates and invoicing policies agreed in writing during design avoid rework later, and a pilot that runs real orders end to end with one sales team catches the rest before go-live.
Can a rep create quotations from a phone?
Yes. Odoo offers a mobile interface for selling on the road, so a rep can open a customer, start from a quotation template and send the quote away from a desk. Creating quotations from templates keeps the offer, the prices and the terms the same whichever device sends them.
Can a sales order be changed after confirmation?
Yes. Odoo describes the ability to modify sales orders, sell product kits and ship partial orders, and customers can modify an order in the portal before confirming it with an electronic signature or online payment. Which changes are allowed after confirmation, and who approves them, is a rule we write down with your sales operations owner.
Does Odoo handle down payments and pro forma invoices?
Yes. Odoo’s invoicing options include down payments, pro forma invoices, invoicing on ordered or delivered quantities, time and materials, and project milestones, and an invoice is created automatically when an online payment is confirmed. Odoo also says you can easily track and follow up on invoice aging. We match each product family to one policy during design.
Which marketplaces connect directly to Odoo Sales?
Odoo’s version 20 Sales documentation covers connectors for Amazon, Shopee, Lazada and TikTok Shop, each with its own order management. Marketplace orders then sit next to orders from your reps, your storefront and your customer portal. Other channels connect through the integrations described above.
