/ Fawtara e-invoicing

What Fawtara asks of your ledger.

Fawtara is the Oman Tax Authority’s e-invoicing programme, with a pilot running since August 2026. Once your date applies, invoices must leave Odoo in a standard digital format, ready for validation, so we build that output first.

The schedule

Two compliance dates, from April 2027

One hundred pilot companies started in August 2026. Businesses with annual supplies above OMR 5 million must comply from 1 April 2027, and every other VAT-registered business from 1 October 2027.

Who is in it

Selected by size, open to early adopters

Your date follows your annual supplies, with OMR 5 million as the line. Any business may opt in early, which puts the timetable in your hands.

The document

Certified, coded and exchanged

A Fawtara invoice is electronically certified and carries a unique verification code. It passes between supplier, buyer, each side’s service provider and the Tax Authority, replacing paper and PDF invoices.

What we build

Output a service provider can transmit

Invoice, credit-note and delivery-note layouts with the required fields and verification code, structured output an accredited service provider sends on, and an archive of each certified copy.

E-commerce

Shopify, Adobe Commerce and Magento stores read price and stock from Odoo and send every order back, in Arabic and English, so a promotion never oversells what a branch already sold.

E-commerce platform integrations shown: Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Adobe Commerceand more

ERP Systems

Odoo can take sales, stock and point of sale first while SAP or an older package keeps the ledger. When finance moves too, history from Tally, Zoho or Dynamics arrives reconciled.

ERP system integrations shown: SAP, Sage, Gusto, QuickBooksand more

EDI & Marketplace

Marketplace and delivery-app orders drop into one Odoo queue. EDI documents for hypermarket and wholesale buyers come from the same orders, so a busy channel never hides an order.

EDI and marketplace integrations shown: Amazon, SelluSeller, Walmart, eBayand more

Shipping Gateways

Freight through Sohar, Duqm and Salalah is tracked from booking to clearance, with duty posted as landed cost. Aramex, DHL and regional carriers connect through Odoo connectors or their APIs.

Shipping gateway integrations shown: ShipStation, UPS, FedEx, ShipHawkand more

Taxation

This is where Fawtara lands. Odoo applies the right Omani tax group to each line, and an accredited service provider transmits the structured invoice for validation.

Tax and compliance integrations shown: Avalara, TaxJar, TaxCloud, Tax Exemptand more

Payment Gateways

Omani cards, Maal included, arrive through your acquirer’s gateway. We connect it with an Odoo payment provider or a module for the bank’s hosted page, and post each fee to its own account.

Payment gateway integrations shown: Authorize.Net, PayPal, Adyen, Stripeand more

Other Integrations

Power BI, WhatsApp Business, statement feeds from your Omani bank and document management all draw on Odoo. Each record gets one owning system, fixed at scoping, so reports agree.

/ How we deliver

Four stages, each ending in software you can use.

Every checkpoint ends with Odoo running on your data. A small implementation lands in 8 to 12 weeks, mid-market in 12 to 24 and an enterprise programme in 6 to 12 months.

Step 01

Discovery and scoping

We sit with your finance lead, storekeeper and branch managers, map each licence, system and approval, and agree the scope of phase one in writing.

Step 02

Design and data

Your Omani chart of accounts, tax groups, price lists and bilingual invoice layouts go into a sandbox, where your accountant raises real documents before sign-off.

Step 03

Build and integrate

Modules first, then the payment gateway, bank feeds, carriers, storefront and the Fawtara invoice output. Each sprint closes with a demo on your data.

Step 04

Test, train, go live

Your team closes a trial period and runs a day of stock movements before live data goes in. Cut-over is monitored, and the builders stay for hypercare.

/ Cost and support

Cost in writing, support after go-live.

Scoping ends with a document, not a rate card: modules by phase, the retirement plan for your current system, the variables behind the estimate and your support model.

Modules

Finance and stock go first

Accounting, Sales, Purchase, Inventory and CRM form phase one, with the Fawtara invoice output built in from the start. Point of Sale, Manufacturing, Payroll and Helpdesk follow, chosen by sector.

Migration

Go-live waits for matching balances

Customers, suppliers, products, open invoices and stock are loaded into a sandbox and reconciled against your old system on two separate dates. Only then is cut-over booked.

Support

Support from the people who built it

The team that configured Odoo stays for your first month-end close and stock count. Then a consultant who knows your build, agreed response times, backups and an annual upgrade.

Cost drivers

Seven variables behind the number

Apps and phases, licences and currencies, integrations, data quality, custom work beyond Studio, hosting and training. Integrations, from the payment gateway to the e-invoicing service provider, carry the most engineering.

/ Oman kit

The Omani pieces arrive already built.

You start with the parts that usually stall an ERP project in Oman: Fawtara documents, bilingual layouts, payroll and multi-company set-up, reused from our earlier Gulf builds.

Compliance

/ VAT set-up

Omani VAT, configured under Fawtara.

Every Fawtara date is set by VAT registration and annual supplies, so the tax set-up is the foundation your e-invoicing stands on, not a task left for go-live week.

Configuration

Tax groups your adviser confirms

We install the Omani chart of accounts with the tax groups and control accounts your adviser confirms, and fiscal positions for exports and exempt lines. It replaces the Gulf neighbour’s chart we often find imported.

The return

A return that ties to the ledger

Tax reports reconcile to control accounts and drill down to each invoice, so the return comes from the ledger. Most goods and services carry the standard 5%, exports are zero-rated and certain financial services are exempt.

Gulf groups

Every Gulf company, its own tax rules

If your group trades across the Gulf, each company keeps its own regime on one database: Omani books, Saudi e-invoices cleared through ZATCA, a separate UAE return, no VAT in Kuwait.

The law

The instruments behind Omani VAT

Omani VAT rests on Royal Decree 121/2020 and the Executive Regulations in Decision No. 53/2021, amended in 2022, 2023, 2025 and 2026. Your adviser applies them; Odoo holds the treatment.

Questions about Odoo, Oman and Fawtara.

How long does an Odoo implementation in Oman take?

It depends on scope: 8 to 12 weeks for a small implementation, 12 to 24 weeks for mid-market and 6 to 12 months for an enterprise programme. Version upgrades take 3 to 8 weeks. If a Fawtara phase applies, the invoice output ships first.

What drives the cost of an Odoo implementation in Oman?

Seven variables: apps and phases, licences and currencies, integrations, the state of your data, custom work beyond Studio, hosting and training. Integrations usually weigh most. You receive a written scope first, and the estimate follows from it.

What is Fawtara, and when does it start?

Fawtara is the Oman Tax Authority’s e-invoicing programme, and it is under way. One hundred pilot companies went first in August 2026. Businesses with annual supplies above OMR 5 million must comply from 1 April 2027, and all other VAT-registered businesses from 1 October 2027. Early adoption is open to any company.

How is VAT handled in an Omani Odoo build?

Through tax groups and fiscal positions, not manual choices. Standard-rated lines carry 5%, exports are zero-rated and exempt supplies are flagged, so Odoo applies the treatment line by line. Your adviser confirms the set-up before go-live.

Can you migrate us from Tally, Focus, Zoho or QuickBooks?

Yes, and from Dynamics or an older Odoo version too. Customers, suppliers, products, open invoices, serial numbers and stock go into a sandbox first. Cut-over is booked only when opening balances agree with the old books.

Do you work in Arabic?

Yes. Odoo runs right to left in Arabic as standard, and every quotation, invoice, delivery note and payslip we design prints in Arabic and English from a single record. Project meetings, documentation and support run in English.

Where will our Odoo data be hosted?

You choose. Odoo Online is the simplest route, Odoo.sh adds a managed deployment pipeline, and your own AWS or Azure tenancy in a nominated region suits residency requirements. Access is mapped by role and data flows documented before go-live.

What work of yours can we see for Oman and the Gulf?

Start with the four Odoo case cards above. Ajmal Perfumes runs Odoo CRM and POS beside SAP across more than 180 Gulf retail locations, and Pan Home, with stores in Oman, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, is one of our Odoo references. Sultan Qaboos University and Al Suwadi Power are on our clients wall.

Can your team work on-site in Oman?

Yes. Your project has a dedicated team, and it works in Muscat for the moments that need a room: discovery workshops, user training and go-live. Sprint reviews and training refreshers run on a call, within normal working hours in Oman.

Are you an official Odoo partner for Oman?

Yes. Brainvire is an Odoo Gold Partner serving Oman, a tier that requires 300 new Enterprise users a year, six certified internal resources and 80% retention. That lets us carry your Enterprise subscription, Odoo.sh hosting and the build in one agreement.

Is Odoo an ERP or a CRM?

Both. Odoo is a comprehensive ERP system, and it offers a CRM app on the same database. Sales, accounting, inventory, purchase and point of sale share one set of records, so a quotation reads live stock and the invoice it becomes posts straight to the ledger.

Which country is Odoo from?

Belgium. Odoo was founded by Fabien Pinckaers, who still leads it as CEO, and is headquartered in Grand Rosière. It sells the software and runs Odoo Online and Odoo.sh. Implementation also runs through its partner network, which Brainvire is part of.

How does Odoo price its subscription?

Odoo sells three plans. One App Free covers a single app. Standard includes all apps on Odoo Online. Custom adds multi-company, the external API and hosting on Odoo.sh or your own servers, with Odoo.sh billed on top. Standard and Custom are charged per user per month. We confirm the plan at scoping, sized to meet your group structure.

Is Odoo better than Zoho for an Omani business?

For a business that has outgrown separate apps, often yes. Odoo keeps accounting, stock, sales and point of sale in one database, while Zoho runs as a suite of linked apps. AmiViz DMCC, the Gulf marketplace on this page, moved off Zoho onto nine Odoo apps in six months.

Which is better, Odoo or SAP?

It depends on scale and budget. Both are leading ERP solutions for groups, and trading houses in Oman often weigh one against the other. SAP suits large groups with fixed, deep processes and the budget to match. Odoo suits trading, retail and industrial businesses that want one modular system they can extend phase by phase. Ajmal Perfumes runs Odoo CRM and POS beside SAP, and the comparison above sets out where each fits.

What are the drawbacks of Odoo ERP?

Three to plan for. Odoo Online, the simplest hosting, cannot run custom code modules, so heavier changes need to be hosted on Odoo.sh or your own servers. Each annual Odoo release means custom modules need a planned upgrade. And the breadth of apps tempts scope creep, so we phase the apps and keep phase one to finance and stock.

Who helps us once Odoo is live?

The team that built it. It stays as your partner in hypercare, through your first month-end close and stock count. Then a named consultant who knows your build acts as a single point of contact for changes, backups, monitoring and the annual upgrade, with agreed response times and a reliable month-end.

Can one Odoo database run several LLCs?

Yes. Many Omani groups hold a separate LLC for each commercial registration. In Odoo each LLC keeps its own books, bank accounts and tax groups tailored to it, while all of them share one product and customer master. Intercompany invoices post automatically, and group consolidation runs on the same database.

Is Odoo a good base for digital transformation?

It is a practical one. For businesses in Oman, digital transformation usually starts with the ledger, stock and invoicing, and Fawtara, Oman’s e-invoicing system, now makes that the urgent piece. Odoo puts those operations and your sales data in one system, so every later technology project, from a storefront to AI reporting, builds on records you already trust.

Do you work with businesses outside Muscat?

Yes. We deliver Odoo for businesses across the Sultanate of Oman. Your dedicated team comes on-site to your location as the project requires, in Sohar, Duqm, Salalah or wherever you operate, for discovery workshops, user training and go-live. Sprint reviews run on a call, within normal working hours in Oman.

Which local payment options can Odoo connect?

Omani cards, Maal included, come through the payment gateway of your acquiring bank. We connect it with an Odoo payment provider or a module for the hosted payment page of the bank. Statement feeds from your local bank then match each settlement to the invoice it pays, and card fees post to their own account.
