Odoo Point of Sale, configured for how you actually operate
Brainvire configures Odoo Point of Sale around the counters you already run: a register per store, tenders mapped to the right journals, terminals wired in, and every session posting to Accounting and Inventory.
Odoo Point of Sale is the register application inside Odoo. It runs in any web browser, keeps selling while temporarily offline, and moves stock as items sell.
Retail and hospitality operators with more than one register or store, whose counter must agree with the warehouse and the ledger.
Small implementations 8 to 12 weeks. Mid-market 12 to 24 weeks. Enterprise, multi-site rollouts 6 to 12 months.

/ Before you change anything
Does your counter look like any of this?
Patterns we see where the till still runs apart from the business.
The till is its own island
Sales happen in one system and reach the books by export, so nobody quite trusts the daily figure.
A dropped line stops the queue
Connectivity goes and the register goes with it, so the store stops selling or writes paper tickets.
Every store is set up differently
Each site grew its own product list, tenders and receipt, so group reporting is reassembled, not run.
The shelf and the system disagree
What sold does not move in stock until somebody adjusts it, so replenishment runs stale.

/ The work itself
What does Brainvire actually change in Odoo Point of Sale?
Odoo ships a working register. The value is in how it is configured around your floor.
| Odoo default | What Brainvire changes | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| One generic register | A record per counter or store with its own tenders, PoS product categories, receipt header and journals | Each counter shows only what it sells, and its takings stay identifiable |
| Cash out of the box | Payment methods created against the right Cash or Bank journal, added per register | The day reconciles by tender, not in one lump |
| No terminal integration | The method set to Integration = Terminal for any of the ten payment terminals Odoo 18 integrates | The amount reaches the terminal from the order and validates itself |
| Retail behavior only | Restaurant Mode on, floors drawn to the real room, tables numbered and seated, bills split, and a preparation display per kitchen with stages and alert timers | Servers work the room, and the pass sees what is due |
| Everyone on one user | Log in with Employees with rights per person, plus barcode or PIN login at the counter | Orders carry who took them; closing a session is a named right |
| No loyalty, no promotions | A loyalty program with the rules you run, plus pricelists per customer and store | Rewards apply at the till, not by hand afterwards |
| Stock moves on adjustment | Tracked products so lots and serial numbers are captured at the till, and Ship Later given a warehouse | A sale becomes a stock move, or a delivery order |
| Totals typed into the books | Default Journals per register, so orders and invoices raised at the till post where finance expects | The session closes into the ledger, not a spreadsheet |
Capability and feature names follow the Odoo 18 documentation.
/ Automation at the counter
Where does automation actually help at the counter?
Built on Odoo POS for clients running real counters.
The customer is known before the sale
For Puma Energy we built a barcode and QR system linking the PUMA PRIS app to Odoo POS. One scan returns the customer’s profile, tier and e-Wallet balance.
The register keeps selling when the line drops
Puma Energy’s convenience stores run Odoo POS with native offline order handling. Transactions continue, each tagged with an offline marker and unique ID, then resync when the line returns.
A new site provisioned from one form
Opening a Puma Energy dealer or branch meant manual steps across accounting, purchase and user setup. A rollout app now provisions scoped users, approval thresholds and localized accounting from one form.
Reward rules the till cannot get wrong
A formula-driven engine works out what a customer may redeem from tier, balance or bill, blocks invalid attempts, and asks for a PIN every time.
What usually connects to the register?
Odoo does not replace every system in the store. It has to talk to them.E-commerce
Online and counter orders share one product list and one stock figure, so click-and-collect settles at the till and the count holds.
and moreERP Systems
Moving off a standalone till need not lose history. We map products, tenders and balances first, then run both a while.
and moreEDI & Marketplace
Marketplace and franchise partners send data in their own shapes. We land it as orders and settlements Odoo reconciles.
and moreShipping Gateways
Ship Later turns a counter sale into a delivery order. Rates and labels come from the gateway, so the customer leaves with tracking.
and moreTaxation
Fiscal positions decide which tax applies by store, customer and registration status. Where a tax authority has its own rules, the country localization carries them.
and morePayment Gateways
The terminal matters most at a counter. Odoo 18 integrates ten payment terminals — Adyen, Ingenico, Mercado Pago, Pine Labs, Razorpay, SIX, Stripe, Tyro, Viva.com and Worldline — and Odoo 19 adds Dpopay. We configure the one your acquirer supports.
and moreOther Integrations
Loyalty engines, wallet balances, rota tools and BI each touch the till. Each gets one owner of the number and a reconciliation.
and more/ Delivery
How does an Odoo Point of Sale implementation run?
Small implementations 8 to 12 weeks, mid-market 12 to 24 weeks, multi-site rollouts 6 to 12 months. A named owner and a working till at each stage.
Discovery
We watch a real shift: counters, tenders, hardware, the peak queue, what happens when the line drops, and every system the till must match.
Design
Register structure, PoS categories, tender-to-journal mapping, employee rights, floor plans and offline behavior are agreed in writing first.
Build and hardware
Configuration, terminal and printer integration, any Studio work, then a pilot counter running your catalog on your own hardware.
Pilot store and rollout
One store trades live for a week, including a deliberate network cut, before rollout. Each later site opens from the same template, with hypercare through its first weekend.
/ Scope
What makes a point-of-sale scope bigger or smaller?
A typical engagement covers the Point of Sale application, the registers, tenders and terminals, receipt and hardware setup, and how a session posts.
How many counters
One more register is small. One more store adds a configuration, a stock location and people.
Retail or restaurant
A restaurant adds floors, tables, split bills, tips and a preparation display. A retail counter does not.
What sits on the counter
Supported ePOS printers need nothing extra. Scales, drawers, screens and older printers need an IoT system.
How people pay
One terminal on one acquirer is simple. Split tenders, wallets and vouchers each add a reconciliation.
/ Odoo in retail, on the record
Where have we done this before?
One client per card, on the record. The first two run Odoo Point of Sale; the third runs the Odoo ERP behind the sales channels.

/ Comparison
Odoo Point of Sale, Square, Lightspeed or Clover?
All four sell well at a counter. The question is what happens after.
| Criterion | Square, Lightspeed or Clover | Odoo |
|---|---|---|
| Where the sale lands | In the POS platform; accounting and inventory sit elsewhere | The same database as Accounting, Inventory and Purchase; posted once |
| Offline behavior | Varies by product and tender | Orders continue in the browser and resync when the line returns |
| Multi-store | Locations in one merchant account, rolled up by the vendor | A record per counter on one database, multi-company across entities |
| Retail and restaurant | Often a separate product or tier per format | One application; Restaurant Mode adds floors, tables, split bills, a kitchen display |
| Customization | App marketplace and published APIs | Studio, plus full source access on Community |
| Hardware | Vendor hardware or a certified list | Epson ePOS printers directly; an IoT system for scales and drawers |
| Hosting | Vendor-hosted | Odoo.sh, your own cloud, or on-premise |
Choose a dedicated POS platform if the counter is the whole business. Choose Odoo if the till must agree with stock, purchasing and the ledger. See Odoo Accounting.
/ Questions we are asked
Odoo Point of Sale FAQs.
Does Odoo POS work offline?
Yes. Odoo Point of Sale runs in a web browser and keeps working while you are temporarily offline, then synchronizes when the connection returns. Puma Energy's convenience stores held around 95% POS uptime through network outages on that behavior, with no lost sales.
Can we run more than one register on one Odoo database?
Yes. Each counter or store is its own Point of Sale record, with its own tenders, receipt and journals, and you open a session per register from the dashboard. Multiple users can be logged into one session, though a session opens only once per browser.
How does Odoo POS post to Accounting?
Each payment method is created against a Cash or Bank journal, and every Point of Sale carries Default Journals for its orders and invoices. An invoice raised at the register creates an entry in the journal you configured, so a closed session lands in the ledger.
Does a sale at the till move stock?
Yes. Product moves are registered in your stock automatically as items sell, and products tracked by lot or serial number prompt for those numbers at the counter. Where goods ship instead, Ship Later creates a delivery order from the warehouse and route you nominate.
Can Odoo Point of Sale run a restaurant?
Yes. Restaurant Mode adds a floor plan with real table numbers, seats, shapes and booking, plus order management by table, split bills and tips. A preparation display sends orders to the kitchen or bar by product category, with named stages and an alert timer.
Which payment terminals does Odoo POS support?
Odoo 18 integrates ten payment terminals: Adyen, Ingenico, Mercado Pago, Pine Labs, Razorpay, SIX, Stripe, Tyro, Viva.com and Worldline, and Odoo 19 adds Dpopay. You enable the terminal in POS settings, create a payment method with Integration set to Terminal, then add it to that register. The payment validates once the transaction succeeds.
What hardware do we actually need?
Odoo Point of Sale runs on any device with a web browser, so an existing tablet or till PC often works. Several Epson ePOS printers are supported directly. Barcode scanners, scales, screens, drawers and older printers connect through an IoT box or Windows virtual IoT.
Can we run loyalty and promotions at the till?
Yes. A loyalty program is enabled per register under the pricing features, and points accrue once a customer is set on the order. For Puma Energy we built loyalty, an e-Wallet and vouchers on Odoo 18, now carrying over 100,000 transactions a month.
How long does an Odoo Point of Sale implementation take?
Small implementations run 8 to 12 weeks. Mid-market programs run 12 to 24 weeks. Enterprise, multi-site rollouts run 6 to 12 months, and a version upgrade alone is 3 to 8 weeks. Store count, restaurant features, hardware and tender count move that range most.
Do we have to switch every store at once?
No. We pilot one store for a full trading week, including a deliberate network cut, then open each following site from the same template. A guided rollout app cut Puma Energy's dealer and branch onboarding from roughly two hours to about fifteen minutes.
